This booklet contains unique templates usable for all instructional areas. Many templates span primary through college levels, and are designed to engage and encourage student metacognition and authentic response to their daily academic work. Four categories of templates are identified: Planning/Goal Setting; Self-Assessment; Peer Assessment; and Teacher Assessment, with many templates fitting multiple categories. An identification bar across the top of each page is shaded to designate the category or categories that the templates best address in terms of both instructor and learner usage.
Planning and Goal Setting templates include those to help students: identify and articulate learning goals, set priorities, and break complex assignments down into more manageable tasks. Self-Assessment templates include those to help students: identify various aspects of the learning process (including what tasks seem easy, which are more difficult), track progress toward a long-term project, process feedback on graded work, and identify the effort they put into a project or assignment. Peer Assessment templates include those that help students articulate constructive feedback, compare notes on assigned tasks, and process received feedback. Most of the templates in this booklet are appropriate for Teacher Assessment tools, with some especially appropriate for framing whole group/class feedback; other templates make great entrance/exit tickets, help students connect specific lessons with real-world applications or current events, identify personal connections to learned materials, or provide a format for specific types of communication (e.g., metaphors or analogies).
Dinah Zike's Notebooking Central series is produced in response to requests for content-specific templates. This series complements Dinah Zike's Notebook Foldables for Spirals, Binders, and Composition Books book and companion CD, a 2011 Teachers' Choice Award winner. This booklet contains templates for use across grade levels and content areas.
